Brick Clubs

Building Skills Through Play and Collaboration

Our Play Included Brick Club programme is a fun, structured intervention designed to help children build vital social, emotional, communication, and fine motor skills through collaborative play with LEGO® bricks. This engaging and evidence‑based approach makes learning social and interaction skills enjoyable and meaningful for young learners.

What Are Brick Clubs?

Brick Clubs are 12‑week group programmes where small groups of children (3–6 per session) work together to build LEGO models under the guidance of trained FOCUSS practitioners. Each weekly session lasts approximately one hour and focuses on teamwork, communication, and problem‑solving.

During sessions, children:

  • Collaborate to build a chosen model together
  • Practice turn‑taking, sharing, and listening skills
  • Develop vocabulary and communication skills as they explain and discuss tasks
  • Reflect on what worked well and how to improve cooperation
  • Build confidence in teamwork and social interaction

This method draws on LEGO‑based play therapy principles - a recognised approach in supporting neurodivergent learners’ social development - that uses structured roles and shared tasks to make social interaction easier and more predictable.
